THE Aviva Premiership clash with Saracens at Sixways a week on Friday will play a big role in the side selected to go to Wasps in the LV= Cup on Sunday, according to assistant head coach Nigel Redman.

Warriors will be keen to build upon their five-point opening to the cup competition following Saturtday’s 34-18 win over Scarlets at Sixways, but the league will always take priority.

So, with only a five-day turnaround between games, Redman suggested key players will likely be rested for this weekend’s trip to Adams Park.

He said: “At this time, we are not sure who we will field.

“We will look at the tape and see who is available with international call-ups.

“We have a big game the Friday after with a short turnaround so we are going to have to make sure that our squad is fit, well and serves the club.

“It was good to get a win against Scarlets with the players who haven’t really started for us this season on the field. It was good to get the four tries and the bonus point.

“We also had players who have been out coming back in and playing well.

“We need to generate internal competition for places so we are constantly pushing each other to get better.”

Meanwhile, back-rower Neil Best was delighted to come off the bench and put a long injury lay-off behind him to score the crucial bonus-point try late on.

He said: “We were always looking to score four tries, so it was important to do that and we just about did it in the end so we were pretty pleased.

“It was nice to come on and get the try and it was a good turnaround after the break.

“We were getting turned over at the ruck quite a lot in the first-half so we addressed that. We also tried to tighten things up in the second-half and hold onto the ball a bit more. It was a tight game.

“They are a good team and they’ve shown that with their performances in the league this season.”

He added: “The emphasis all week was on scoring four tries and we were trying new things and tried to play more expansive rugby. It worked well in the end and we could have scored even more.”
