WORCESTER City boss Andy Preece believes his side's dominance at Hyde United deserved three points.

City drew 0-0 in Saturday's Nationwide North clash at Ewen Fields but controlled the game for long periods and missed several chances to secure victory.

Player-manager Preece said: "It was a really good performance. It was almost like we were the home side and they were the away side the way we played.

"We kept the ball well, created a number of opportunities and limited them to very few chances.

"I thought we played a lot better though than we did at Basingstoke and had more chances but it's just that end product in the final third.

"Whether it's a finish or a cross, we're just a little bit short but we deserved to win and their bench said we deserved to win.

"Sometimes you don't get what you deserve and we definitely didn't. A point is nowhere near enough for the performance."

Preece, who last week spoke of making personnel changes, persisted with the same team that started at Basingstoke in the FA Cup and believes his troops responded to the challenge.

He said: "I felt that they were hurting from going out in the cup. I felt they deserved another opportunity and they did well.

"It's very hard to criticise a team that plays so well. Every game I've seen or read about Hyde they have been on top and teams have mugged them but this was totally different. We were well on top."

But Preece knows a host of squandered second-half opportunities and Gareth Seddon's 92nd-minute effort against the woodwork for Hyde could have cost his side dear.

He said: "I couldn't be happier with the performance but disappointed with the points that we got from the game.

"Our fans clapped us off and they know that we were really unlucky."

The manager continued: "That's the level of performance and if we play like that week in, week out we're going to pick up results so that's the standard we have got to set.

"We looked really solid defensively. I thought as a unit they very rarely looked like breaking us down and they've got three good strikers so to restrict them to little or nothing is a big effort."

Preece added: "We are still looking to freshen things up and bring people in and we'll see what comes of next week."
