WORCESTER City are out to end a run of three consecutive home defeats tomorrow when they take on Workington at St George’s Lane (3pm).

Carl Heeley’s team made a fine start to the season at headquarters, winning five and drawing one of their opening six league and cup fixtures.

In recent weeks that form has taken a dip with Stalybridge Celtic and Brackley Town both winning at the Lane in Blue Square Bet North and Altrincham triumphing in the FA Trophy last Saturday.

But City are still in fourth position, having won at Boston United and Hinckley United during the same period, and can keep themselves in the play-off picture by returning to winning ways tomorrow.

Heeley is not expecting a walk in the park against the 10th-placed Reds but knows a victory would boost his side heading into a tough run of fixtures against fellow promotion hopefuls.

The Worcester manager said: “I have always been impressed by Workington, they are a good side and tough opponents.

“We have found it tough against them since we have come back into Conference North and I don’t foresee that being any different tomorrow.”

He added: “At the moment we are not playing catch-up, we are in the mix and have to keep the points tally ticking over.

“We have got some tough fixtures coming up and that starts with Workington tomorrow.”

Workington, who have triumphed on their last two visits to the Lane, also come into the match having lost in the FA Trophy.

Darren Edmondson’s team were beaten 2-1 at lower-ranked Ossett Town last Saturday but, prior to that, had gone four unbeaten in Blue Square Bet North, including a 2-1 win at Altrincham.

City will be forced into at least one change at the weekend, with Danny Edwards expected to come in for the suspended Ellis Deeney at left-back.

The former Aston Villa youth captain has picked up five yellow cards this season and, with Shabir Khan on international duty with Pakistan in Singapore, Edwards is the only naturally left-sided player available to fill the void.

There are also doubts over Michael Taylor after the striker tweaked his hamstring during training earlier this week.

In addition, Heeley warned after the Altrincham defeat further changes could be on the cards and players should not be surprised if they were dropped.

Former Barrow midfielder Robin Hulbert is continuing to train with City but no deal has yet been agreed.
