IT was sweet revenge for King’s School, Worcester, in the latest round of the Daily Mail Under 18 Cup competition as they came from behind, scoring 19 unanswered points, to beat last year’s beaten finalists, Oldswinford Hospital School.

Starting slowly on a heavy pitch, King’s soon found themselves behind after strong running by the OSH backs and some poor tackling by King’s.

A well-worked try, followed by an excellent touchline conversion saw, OSH take a 7-0 lead.

King’s began to raise their game and made inroads into the heart of the OSH defence but it was the visitors who added to their score by crossing for a second, unconverted try.

However, the Worcester school persevered and were rewarded with two well-struck penalty goals from winger Martyn Bowles to go into the break 12-6 down.

Playing with a stiff breeze in the second-half, King’s rediscovered the form which has seen them only lose one match this term.

Controlling the game much more effectively, they soon scored a try through flanker Andrew Boyce who powered over following a series of strong forward drives.

With the conversion missed, King’s still trailed by a point but the turning point came when winger Dave Serafini intercepted a pass and ran 65 metres unopposed to finish under the posts.

The drama looked set to continue as Bowles missed the easiest of kicks and King’s led by a slender 16-12.

But with both teams tiring in the heavy conditions, it was King’s who had the last word when OSH were penalised in front of their posts to give Bowles one more chance.

This time he was unerring and King’s finished 19-12 victors.

They now play Norwich School next Wednesday at home in the last 32 of the national competition.
