TICKETS for Worcester City’s last league game at St George’s Lane are to go on general sale.

The Blue Square Bet North match against Chester on Saturday, April 27, 2013, is set to bring the curtain down on 108 years at the ground.

Although Worcester could be involved in the play-offs, the match will be the last one in which league points are at stake.

City are hoping for a capacity crowd of 4,523 for the historic fixture and tickets go on general sale from the club office at 9am on Monday, December 17.

They will also be available in advance to supporters attending today’s match against Halifax and the visit of Bradford Park Avenue next Saturday.

On each occasion, tickets will be on sale in the Legends Bar from 12.30pm to 3pm. Season ticket holders can collect theirs during office hours.

Chester have been allocated 672 tickets, leaving City with 3,851 and fans are being advised to buy theirs as soon as possible.

Prices in the main stand are £14 for adults and £10 concessions, £7 for 16 to 21 year olds and £5 for under 16s. To stand, it’s £12, £8, £5 and £3.

Meanwhile, City are hoping their investment in specialised pitch covers will again pay off by protecting the surface for today’s visit of Halifax (3pm).

Drawing on the knowledge of director Mike Davis, the club have spent around £2,500 on a polyethylene net, normally used to protect fruit and vegetables, to insulate their pitch.

It was significantly cheaper than customary covers and was put down last Wednesday in a bid to keep the frost at bay.

They reduced the amount of games called off at the Lane during the winter months last season, with only the match against Gainsborough in early February being postponed because of a frozen pitch.

With three more home fixtures to come this month following the Halifax clash, including the visit of local rivals Gloucester City on Boxing Day, the investment could again prove its worth if a prolonged cold snap hits.
