NUNNERY Wood Colts have been named FA Charter Standard Development Club of the year in Worcestershire.

The club scooped the prestigious accolade for its work with junior players in the region and were presented with the award by Worcestershire FA chairman Roy Northall at Worcester City’s match against Halifax.

The Colts are one of Worcester’s largest clubs and currently have 21 teams ranging from boys under sixes through to under 16s, two girls teams, an adults team and a veterans side.

All play at Battenhall playing fields and train on the 3G pitch at the University of Worcester as part of a 12-year community partnership with the university.

The club also runs a soccer school at Battenhall for under fives to under 12s on Saturdays from 1pm to 2.30pm. Chairman Mark Wilcox said: “This is a very prestigious FA award and special thanks go to all teams, managers, coaches, players and parents in contributing all the hard work required in achieving this honour for the club.”

Meanwhile, the Colts have donated unwanted kits and balls to the RAF’s Shirts For Africa appeal.

A presentation was made to squadron leader and project co-ordinator Neil Hope, also at half-time during City’s match against Halifax.

Nigel Upson, Colts’ charities co-ordinator, said: “The appeal is a fantastic initiative that will benefit children, young people and adults in Africa and beyond.

“It is great to know that kit once worn by our players will be made good use of and enjoyed by the people Neil’s team support.”
