FAMILIES in Worcester could play a big part in helping Warriors uncover the Matt Kvesics and Andy Shorts of the future.

The two Sixways starlets have graduated from the club’s successful academy system to become first XV regulars, but they started out in the Aviva Premiership club’s Achieving Academic and Sporting Excellence (AASE) scheme.

In conjunction with Worcester Sixth Form College, the Warriors academy runs an AASE programme for players in the club’s specified geographical area of North Midlands and Warwickshire.

Players from this large region attend Worcester Sixth Form College to complete their education, while the Warriors academy delivers approximately 20 hours of rugby per week.

However, as part of making this scheme such a success, the club is on the look-out for host families to come forward for the youngsters to stay with during the week.

Steve Salvin, performance pathway manager at Warriors, said: “As our geographical area is so large, we regularly ask players to relocate to Worcester during the week so that they are not spending large amounts of time on a daily basis travelling.

“The players stay with their host families during the week and return home at the weekend.

“We are looking for host families for the 2013-14 season.

“Host families would usually house one or two players and be reimbursed either on a weekly or nightly basis for their assistance through a structured invoicing process.

“All host families will be provided with education in nutrition and player conduct and lifestyle among various other areas and introductions to players and their families would be completed well in advance of the player starting college.”

Prospective host families must live in or around the Worcester area, be Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked, able to provide a comfortable living environment and have the ability to build relationships with young people.
