Glover could start in Worcester City revenge mission

COMEBACK KID?: Striker Danny Glover could start for Worcester City at Gloucester today after some substitute appearances following his return from injury.
WORCESTER City are determined to make a flying start to 2013 by avenging their Boxing Day defeat to Gloucester City.
Carl Heeley’s men bring the curtain up on the new year with a trip to Cheltenham Town’s Whaddon Road to take on the Tigers for the second time in a week.
Gloucester triumphed 1-0 at St George’s Lane after Worcester failed to convert any of their opportunities.
But Heeley is convinced they have the beating of their M5 rivals and is ready to set the record straight today (3pm).
The City manager said: “We were frustrated at home against Gloucester. On reflection, we didn’t have the rub of the green and are just hopeful we get a little bit more fortune in the return fixture.
“We’re good enough to beat them, I think people saw that the other day. Credit to Gloucester, they defended really well with a bit of fortune on their side but if we get those chances again the law of averages says we’re going to score goals.
“We’ll go there very positively looking to get a win on the board and kick on into the new year.”
Worcester lost 3-1 at Cheltenham’s tenants on the opening day of 2012, a result that prompted a run of four successive defeats which dented their play-off hopes.
“We’ve got to look to improve on the January we had last season because that was quite pivotal to where we finished in the table,” Heeley said.
“Hopefully, we can start 2013 with a win and move on to the Colwyn Bay game on Saturday in a positive frame of mind.”
Leading scorer Mike Symons is fit to line up against his former employers despite taking a knock to his back on Boxing Day. He could also have been available for last Saturday’s match against Gainsborough Trinity, which was postponed due to a waterlogged home pitch, although Heeley hinted at changes.
Danny Glover is an option after a series of substitute appearances following his recovery from an Achilles injury, while fellow striker Michael Taylor has also come off the bench recently.
The Worcester boss added: “We may have swapped it around last Saturday. It’s no good having our squad and playing the same 11 so we may have shaken it up anyway.”
Fans at today’s game will not be segregated despite original plans to keep them apart.
Meanwhile, former Worcester striker Alex Meechan has joined Northern League Premier Division side Witton Albion.
