FORMER Kidderminster Harriers forward Jon Newby has been sacked as Colwyn Bay player-manager ahead of their match against Worcester City this weekend.

The Seagulls, who host the St George’s Lane club on Saturday (3pm), made the move after losing 4-2 at home to Vauxhall Motors on New Year’s Day.

The result dropped them into the Blue Square Bet North bottom four and five points above the drop-zone.

Colwyn Bay chairman Bob Paton said: “Things needed freshening up. We asked Jon to resign after the game but he refused so we reluctantly had no choice but to sack him.”

Lee Williams, a former keeper at the North Wales outfit, is set to take over for the visit of Worcester.

Newby, who spent one month on loan at Kidderminster in 2006, had been in charge since November 2011.

Meanwhile, Worcester midfielder Matt Birley and left-back Shabir Khan should be available for the Colwyn Bay trip.

Birley has been on the verge of a comeback following more than two months out with a knee injury, while Shabir (calf) has been missing since the start of December.
