Hitman Jamille Matt pledges future to Kidderminster Harriers
KIDDERMINSTER Harriers have been given a boost with highly-rated striker Jamille Matt agreeing to stay at the club until the end of the 2013-14 campaign.
The 23-year-old has agreed improved terms which also means he will be contracted to the club for another 18 months.
With seven goals scored in December, Matt, who was player-of-the-month in the Blue Square Bet Premier, is among the hottest properties in non-league football.
His signing on the dotted line will ensure Harriers get a sizeable fee if, as expected, a host of Football League clubs try to sign him.
With the interest in Matt only set to increase now the transfer window is open, Kidderminster chairman Mark Serrell is aware an extended deal will ensure the striker is not sold on the cheap.
“This is great news for the club and for Jamille,” said Serrell. “It is safe to say he is the hottest property in non-league football since Jamie Vardy last year.
“Jamille is paying us back after the club backed him during a difficult time.”
Serrell added: “I cannot guarantee he won’t be sold because there is such a lot of interest in him but this ensures if he does go then the club will be properly financially rewarded.
“I’ve had chairmen calling me constantly and the interest is only going to increase now the transfer window is open. We believe Jamille can play at the highest level and we want to help him but make sure we get something back in return.”
Jamaica-born Matt endured a frustrating nine months out of football while residency issues were sorted with the UK Border Agency but he has made an eye-catching return.
