Former Worcester City chairman Dave Boddy handed top job at Newport County

FORMER Worcester City chairman Dave Boddy has been unveiled as the new chief executive at Newport County.

Boddy, who resigned from the St George’s Lane hot-seat after five years in 2008, left his role with the Football Conference in order to join the Blue Square Bet Premier title hopefuls.

He will operate above general manager Steve Dance at Rodney Parade and have overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the club.

County director Howard Greenhaf and chairman Les Scadding confirmed the appointment of Boddy in a press conference today.

Boddy took over as Worcester chairman from Dr Michael Sorensen in 2003 and made way for current incumbent Anthony Hampson to become a director.

He resigned from the board completely on Christmas Eve in 2009.

During his tenure, City’s ground was sold for housing to Careys New Homes but a new stadium at Nunnery Way has proved financially unviable, although planning permission has been gained by developers St Modwen.

City are set to ground-share with Kidderminster Harriers when they leave the Lane after 108 years in June.

Following his departure from the club, Boddy joined the Football Conference staff in 2010 having previously been on their board for five years.

Newport are currently third in the league, two points behind leaders Grimsby Town but with a game in hand.

Mr Boddy's track record is not the best (look what he has done at Worcester City).I hope that he has learnt from all his mistakes (but i doubt it) Good Luck Newport and your supporters, you are at the moment a great club, let's hope it stay's that way.

The recruitment process in football seems to be beyond the comprehension of all sensible and intelligent people!!!

They must be crazy. I hope the fans give him a rough time when he sells their ground for housing ...
I also fail to understand how people with such history as Boddy get these jobs, its like seeing someone hit their thumb with a hammer then asking to borrow the hammer to hit our own thumb....
