FLOODY NEW YEAR: Worcestershire County Cricket Club face a clean up operation following the floods over Christmas.
WITH the floodwater finally beginning to recede around Worcester, the indomitable New Road groundstaff have once again launched a well-rehearsed clean-up operation.
Despite the County’s pitch being under several feet of water for more than a fortnight, club officials are optimistic no lasting damage has been done.
Head groundsman Tim Packwood and his team began tackling the aftermath of the flooding yesterday morning and will carry on as the water finally drains completely away from the New Road ground.
Worcestershire chief executive David Leatherdale said: “The clear-up started yesterday morning as the water has receded, starting with the car parks.
“The groundstaff have been out to drag some of the square where the water was still lying and will now need for it to dry off before further work can be done, but the grass is pretty long so it should be OK.”

I am inclined to believe that there might well be more flooding before the season starts. However the management are obviously closer to god than us mere humans and have privileged inside information !
