Kvesic and Mullan urged to sign new Warriors deals

WARRIORS forwards coach Nigel Redman has urged out-of-contract stars Matt Kvesic and Matt Mullan to commit their futures to the club and become the ‘cultural architects’ of the club’s bid to move to the next level.

The Sixways academy-produced pair were yesterday included in England head coach Stuart Lancaster’s revised Saxons Elite Player Squad and Redman sees them both playing vital roles for Worcester going forward.

“I would love them to be part of what we’re doing as I believe we’re making moves in the right direction,” said former England lock Redman.

“They can be part of something special here — they can be the foundation of it with their backgrounds of having come through the academy.

“Personally, I’ve always liked to be part of something new and they can be the cultural architects as well as the playing architects of what we’re doing here.

“With the emotional and cultural side developing, that will really help the playing side and we need people like Matt Kvesic and Matt Mullan to be the heart of it.”

Redman added: “I think the Saxons is a stepping stone for Matt Kvesic. He is 20 years old and has played exceptionally well.

“His performance against Leicester Tigers was absolutely wonderful — I felt he should have been man-of-the-match — and I think he can build on it.

“He has come through the academy and has been here a long time — Matt Mullan is the same — and I’m delighted to see them both in the Saxons squad.

“For Matt Kvesic, there is the Six Nations as well as the England tour at the end of the season, so there is a lot to aim for.”

The Saxons will meet up on Monday, January 21, at Surrey Sports Park ahead of their match against the Ireland Wolfhounds in Galway on Friday, January 25 (7.35pm).
