We’ll be up for Trophy revenge vows City ace Weir
TYLER Weir says Worcester City have to make home advantage count as they bid to topple play-off rivals Altrincham today (3pm).
City are at St George’s Lane for the first time in 2013 looking for a victory that could propel them back into the top five of the Blue Square Bet North standings.
Although Carl Heeley’s team lost 3-0 to the Robins in the FA Trophy in November, Weir feels that was a blip at a time when Worcester were in form – they had won two of their previous three matches.
Now, having won 3-0 at Colwyn Bay last Saturday, the right-back wants City to prove the point by winning for the sixth time on home soil this term.
Weir said: “They beat us in the Trophy but there were three quick goals and that killed the game but we are ready after the clean sheet last week.
“We were playing well in the league and we let ourselves and the fans down but we will be right up for it today.”
He continued: “It’s a six-pointer. If we win we are back in the mix but if they win they will have a bit of breathing space.
“But we have got home advantage so it’s a big game. We just need the three points.
“Last year our home form was good and not many teams beat us.
“We really need to get back to winning ways at the Lane.”
Weir is the only member of the City squad to have played all 28 games for the club this season and is set to continue that sequence after shaking off a knee problem.
The ex-Gloucester player required stitches in his knee in the wake of the New Year’s Day defeat against his former employers.
