KIDDERMINSTER Harriers’ play-off quest continues apace tomorrow at Macclesfield Town (3pm).

Steve Burr’s side moved into the Blue Square Bet Premier top five following last Saturday’s 2-0 victory at Mansfield Town and want to stay there.

The success was Harriers’ ninth in 10 league games, underlining the progress they have made since losing their first five games of the season.

The Aggborough outfit head to Moss Rose, where manager Burr made his name as a striker in the 1980s and 90s, aiming for a third consecutive clean sheet.

Assistant boss Gary Whild said: “It’s important, if you want to be up there at the end of the season and in the shake-up, that you can go away, as well as at home, and keen a clean sheet.

“We have a definite resilience to us now defensively, which probably hasn’t been there in the past, so it’s great to see all that hard work pay off.”

A major factor in the defensive solidity has been centre-half Josh Gowling but full-backs Lee Vaughan and Mickey Demetriou both proved their worth, not least by scoring in the win over Mansfield.

Midfielder Keith Briggs is set to return after recovering from a knee injury sustained in the 2-0 victory over Barrow earlier this month.

However, winger Sean Clancy starts a three-match suspension for his red card 20 minutes from the end at Field Mill last Saturday.

With Burr appearing in no rush to sign a replacement for striker Jamille Matt, who joined Fleetwood Town last week, Ryan Rowe and Anthony Malbon look set to continue.
