Brewers dethrone Kings for County Minor Cup semi-final spot
11:40am Tuesday 29th January 2013 in Sport
ONCE again, waterlogged pitches caused the vast majority of Worcester and District League matches to be postponed over the weekend.
In the games that were played, Brewers Athletic reached the semi-finals of the Worcestershire FA Sunday Minor Cup with a thrilling 8-4 extra-time win at Kidderminster League side Areley Kings.
Brewers found themselves 4-3 down after 88 minutes before John Wade lobbed the home goalkeeper from 40 yards to send the match into extra-time.
There was only one team in it after that.
Wade added his second with brother Shane and Ben Price also notching doubles.
Adam Harris and Gary Knight added further goals as Brewers steamed into the last four.
However, they will not be joined by Powick Reserves who crashed out 5-3 at Birdseye Sports Evesham Sunday League side Bear in their quarter-final tie.
Back in the Worcester Sunday League Division One, Droitwich Spa Eagles beat Northwick Vale 4-1 with Josh Farmer and Alan Parkinson both bagging a brace.
Two other matches took place on Sunday, both in Division Two.
Hallow had a 4-2 home win against Inter Express thanks to Rob Perrins scoring two of their goals. Karl Foskitt did likewise for Express.
Malvern Rangers won 4-2 at Worcester Saints with goals from Dan Stowe (2), Jamie Smith and Lewis Doyle. Dan Terry and Kieran Adams replied for the Worcester side.
In the Saturday League, Hallow recorded their fourth successive victory in Division One, hammering the University of Worcester 6-0.
Nathan Jones cracked a treble for the winners with Jamie Insall adding a double and Toby Attwood also on the scoresheet.
In Division Two, goals from Sam James and James Collins gave Foregate a 2-1 win against Leigh and Bransford Badgers.
