Harriers boost their firepower to fill the void left by star striker Jamille
KIDDERMINSTER Harriers have added two strikers to their ranks as they continue their Football League promotion push.
Amari Morgan-Smith, 23, and Nathaniel Jarvis, 21, joined the Aggborough club on loan from Macclesfield Town and Cardiff City respectively.
Alongside Nathan Blissett, who agreed a deal until the end of next term earlier this week, Anthony Malbon and Ryan Rowe, it takes the number of strikers available to manager Steve Burr to five.
Burr has been seeking to fill the boots of Jamille Matt, who joined Fleetwood Town for an undisclosed free, believed to be around £300,000, earlier this month.
Harriers made moves for Hereford hit-man Ryan Bowman and Tamworth striker Adam Cunnington but said both were out of their price bracket.
However, the Kidderminster boss is happy with his temporary acquisitions. Morgan-Smith has signed for an initial month and Jarvis until the end of the season.
Burr could unleash the pair on Blue Square Bet Premier play-off rivals Newport County at Rodney Parade tomorrow (3.15pm).
He said: “We have been looking at a replacement for Jamille because he has been a big miss for us.
“We have another couple of strikers on board with us and hopefully they can help us get the goals.
“It’s more firepower and that’s what we have been looking for. We have got some good options to pick from now.
“We hit a few brick walls (trying to sign players) but we are pleased with the two we have got and hopefully they can be a success for us.”
Burr added: “They are all big games but, after a good three points on Tuesday against Telford, we are hoping we can get three more at Newport.”
James Vincent has returned to training following injury but midfield colleague Keith Briggs is facing at least another three weeks out, also with a knee problem.
Tomorrow’s kick-off has been put back 15 minutes because of the Wales and Ireland match in the Six Nations in Cardiff.
