AGUSTIN Creevy, the Argentine international hooker, will join Warriors next season after agreeing a move from French Top 14 outfit Montpellier.

There will be a strong Pumas contingent at Sixways next term with front-rower Creevy joining international team-mates, back-row Leonardo Senatore and fly-half Ignacio Mieres, in moving to Worcester.

The recruitment of Creevy and Mieres, alongside the deals to bring Senatore and former Munster and Stade Francais play-maker Paul Warwick to Warriors, will be seen as a strong statement of intent by Worcester’s rivals.

Both Creevy and Senatore possess Italian passports, while Warwick has an Irish passport, so Mieres could be the only ‘foreign’ player on Warriors’ books next term as it stands.

Aviva Premiership clubs are only permitted two ‘foreign’ players — that is someone who is not covered by the Bosman or Kolpak rulings — in their match-day 22.

Former Biarritz and Clermont Auvergne hooker Creevy, who has won 22 caps for his country, revealed he turned down a host of offers from both France and England in favour of signing for Warriors.

The 27-year-old said: “The chance to play in England is something that was always my intention.

“In fact I have previously had two opportunities but the time was not right. I have recently had many offers from clubs in France and England, but decided the time was now right to experience the culture and play in the Premiership.

“I spoke with several teams, but after my conversation with Richard Hill I decided Worcester was the club.”

Creevy also captained Argentina when they played Warriors in a friendly at Sixways on the eve of the Rugby World Cup in 2011, where he featured in all five games for the Pumas.

Warriors chief Richard Hill added: “Agustin is a quality international player who will add real strength in depth and power to the forwards we are building here at Warriors.

“He is clearly very comfortable with the ball in hand and has very strong off-loading skills.

“His ability in the contact is excellent.”
