Worcester City record third away win in a row
GOALS from Danny Glover and Mike Symons earned Worcester City a 2-0 victory at Stalybridge Celtic and their third away win on the spin.
City enjoyed the better chances in a feisty encounter at Bower Fold but did not break the deadlock until nine minutes from time.
Sub Matt Breeze sent a long ball forward and Glover raced onto it before firing home his 10th goal of the campaign.
Symons, who had earlier replaced Michael Taylor, turned home Tom Thorley’s right-wing cross three minutes later the seal the points.
Manager Carl Heeley said: “If you look at the game as whole we were the better side throughout. I thought we dominated in all areas.
“In the first-half, playing up the slope, we were very unfortunate not to go in leading. We hit the crossbar and had three or four good chances.
“But we just felt if we remained patient and didn’t try to force things then we would get more opportunities and it came through a great move and a super finish from Danny.
“We’d just put Matt Breeze on and he played a great ball in behind their defence and as it came over Danny’s shoulder he hit it first time with his left foot and it was a brilliant finish into the corner. I think we deserved it.”
The City boss added: “Symmo has been looking for a goal for a while, he’s a big player for us and it hasn’t gone well for him in the last few weeks.
“But he keeps working hard and he came off the bench to score the goal and I can’t ask for any more than that.”
