Worcester City target much-needed home win

WORCESTER City are determined to build on their Stalybridge Celtic triumph and win at St George’s Lane for the first time in 2013 tonight.

City tightened their grip on sixth place in Blue Square Bet North with a 2-0 victory at Bower Fold on Saturday thanks to late goals from Danny Glover and substitute Mike Symons.

Now they take on Solihull Moors tonight (7.45pm) aiming for back-to-back league wins for the first time since August while trying to end a run of four home games without a victory.

Manager Carl Heeley said: “We are striving for that bit of consistency and have got an opportunity now.

“We’ve had a great win at Stalybridge, the boys are all buoyant and buzzing again so now we need to relax tonight and play our football.

“If we show the same commitment and work-rate, we are going to win more games than we’ll lose.

“We’ve just got to transfer what we did on Saturday into tonight. If we do that, we’ll be very close to winning the game.

“It’s about consistency, more than home and away form, and winning games back-to-back.”

Greg Mills and Tyler Weir could be fit to feature after making progress from injury in recent days.

Winger Mills missed the Stalybridge success with a hamstring problem, while right-back Weir has not played since January 12 after suffering a facial injury in a fall. However, both travelled with the squad to Greater Manchester at the weekend and Weir took part in the pre-match warm-up.

Heeley added: “Greg’s hamstring is not too bad but Tyler has been out for a while and hasn’t done any training.

“He had a little fitness test last Saturday and wanted to play but we just felt he needed to get a session under his belt.

“But he worked hard before the game and is unlikely to get any reaction with the type of injury it is so, all being well, we will have both of them available, if not tonight then certainly next weekend.”

Solihull dropped to 13th in the table following Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat to Vauxhall Motors which was their third straight league loss.

Marcus Bignot’s side, beaten 1-0 by Worcester at Damson Park last October, have drawn seven times on their travels this season but only won once at Droylsden back in September.
