City manager hits out at woeful defending
“WE can’t defend,” was manager Carl Heeley’s blunt assessment of his Worcester City team following their 3-1 defeat to Solihull Moors.
City were beaten for the sixth time on their own turf in Blue Square Bet North and have now won just once in the league since September 15.
Gary Birch and Junior English took advantage of poor marking to put Solihull 2-0 up inside 32 minutes and, despite Michael Taylor pulling one back before the break, Jay Denny struck a third three minutes into the second-half.
“You cannot give goals away like that,” said manager Heeley, whose side remain sixth in the table but having played more games than the teams around them.
“Two minutes before we came out we said don’t give a silly free-kick away, keep a high line and make sure you pick up your men. But we contrived to make three mistakes within two seconds for their first goal.
“For their second goal their player was on the half-way line with Ellis Deeney and Matt Breeze around him but he did a little trick to take both out of the game and put a simple ball in to a man nobody was marking.
“We got ourselves a little lifeline and talked about playing at a high tempo at the start of the second-half but we went and gifted another goal.
“With the greatest will in the world, you’re never going to win games if you’re just gifting goals away like that.
“We were chasing the game and rarely looked like getting back into it in all honesty.”

Apart from the top 3 or 4 most teams in this league struggle to top 350 spectators, and even though SGL is due for demolition the ground and pitch are better than most.
Conversely, City seem to be more jittery at home especially when Whitehead doesn`t play.
Personally, I think their faint chance of he play-offs went up in smoke last night.

I think rather than a lack of respect it could be that playing in a decent stadium, on a good pitch in front of (by most standards in this league) a large crowd inspires them a bit.

More difficult certainly, but no reason to stop trying yet.

were blaming each other but there seems no leadership in this area to sort it out.In several instances Danny Glover was near enough on our goal line hoofing the ball up the field to minimize the danger.Taylor had a number of chances but unfortunately lacked that bit of skill to put them away but to be fair to him he does his best.
I get the impression teams view us has being in a false position in this league and thus show us no respect and attack our weaknesses from the kick off.Congratulations again to the ground staff for getting it played it was a pity the players did not match your efforts.
Also praise to the 653 soles who braved the elements again hoping that instead of a cup of bovril at half time to help keep them warm they could rely on a City fightback but has in previous weeks no chance, so next home game remember to put on a layer of extra clothing and bring a flask.
