Worcester City goalkeeper Glyn Thompson backing team in play-off push
GOALKEEPER Glyn Thompson insists Worcester City have not given up hope of reaching the Blue Square Bet North play-offs.
City’s chances of finishing in the top five suffered another setback last Saturday with a 3-1 defeat at Harrogate Town, their second loss in the space of five days.
They are clinging to sixth spot in the table and could be overtaken by both Halifax and Harrogate Town tonight.
But Thompson although disappointed with the reverse at Wetherby Road, says Worcester are focused on returning to winning ways against second-placed Guiseley at St George’s Lane on Saturday.
“Nobody is throwing in the towel or anything, we’ve just got to look to the next game,” he said.
“We didn’t get the result we wanted at Harrogate but we look forward to Saturday now and it is an opportunity for us to get three points at home.
“We will deal with Guiseley first and then we’ll deal with everything else after that.”
Following two clean sheets in three games, City have now shipped six goals in their last two matches.
Thompson, however, is hoping that trend is only a blip and believes City’s defensive form can return sooner rather than later.
The former Newport County keeper added: “Nobody likes conceding goals but I think we’ve just got to take responsbility as a team rather than individuals.
“I think we’ve got to stick together and work hard and the clean sheets will return.”
