KING’S School Worcester have won the prestigious Christ College Brecon Rugby Sevens tournament for the first time.

Scoring 21 tries and only conceding three across four group games, they beat Christ College Brecon, Campion, St Edward’s Oxford and Wellington School to reach the last 16.

The King’s side beat Glantaf 40-5 to advance to the quarter-finals where they saw off Bryanston, one of the tournament favourites who featured in their ranks a number of England internationals, 26-0.

In the semi-final, second-half converted tries from Andrew Boyce and David Serafini secured a fine comeback to beat Ellesmere College, who had defeated Millfield in the previous round.

Against a strong Llandovery side in the final, King’s started well with tries from Serafini and George De Cothi to take a 10-0 lead.

Llandovery managed to pull one back before half-time and then scored first after the break to make it 12-10 in their favour.

With the clock ticking down, player-of-the-tournament De Cothi made an incisive break to sneak over in the corner to give King’s the victory.
