Evesham United boss happy with efforts ahead of clash with leaders

Robins do battle with table-toppers Robins do battle with table-toppers

MANAGER Paul West hopes the attitude of his Evesham United players will hold them in good stead in their Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West points battle.

The Robins boss was full of praise for his team following Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at Poole Town, particularly as injuries meant they had to make the trip to Dorset with several of the club’s under 18s.

West feels they are not getting the victories their efforts deserve, having drawn four of their last six matches, and hopes that can change when they host leaders Hungerford Town tomorrow (3pm).

“The result wasn’t what we wanted at Poole but I couldn’t fault the players at all,” he said. “I was really proud of them with the way they acquitted themselves.

“I am full of admiration for those that might not be the greatest players in the world but have the desire to pit their wits at the highest level they personally can.

“Players can have all the ability in the world but they are no use to me if they can’t get out of bed.

“We gave as good as we got on Tuesday but we didn’t score.”

Defensive duo Chris Jackson (shoulder) and Jamal Clarke (ankle) and midfielder James Blake (hamstring) missed the Poole match and remain doubts.
