London Wasps confirm signing of Worcester Warriors fly-half Joe Carlisle

LONDON Wasps have confirmed they have signed Worcester Warriors fly-half Joe Carlisle for next season.

As revealed in your Worcester News last month, the 25-year-old joins another current Sixways player, prop Matt Mullan, in making the switch to Wasps after the current campaign.

Wasps director of rugby Dai Young said: “I have been impressed with Joe over the last few seasons and he’s a young English player I believe has a lot of potential. He has an excellent kicking game and he attacks the line very well and has the ability to really get a backline moving.

“He’s comfortable in the centre and at fullback as well as at ten and his aim in moving here is really to reignite his career and I believe we can help him to do that. He’ll be playing here with lots of other young English talent and I think he’ll enjoy his time at the club.”

Carlisle has made 90 appearances and scored 477 points for Worcester since coming through the club’s academy and earlier this season set a club record for the highest ever number of points in a European game.

Carlisle has been sidelined with injury for some of this season but is now back fully fit.

I'm sorry to see JC leave Sixways, I think he's been a very valuable player for the club. Wish him all the best.

In the current gloom & doom at Sadways this is no great loss. I've never seen a fly half tackle so much fresh air as the Swindon- born Joey can.

I believe Joe is a very talented player who has been stifled by successive negative game plans during his time here. Given the chance I can't see why he will not prosper in a club that plays expansive rugby. Joe lest the non believers forget thanks for the last minute conversion that got us to the premiership and good luck. P S I also like Marmite!
