Congested fixture list may hinder small Hereford United squad says manager Martin Foyle

Foyle fears games may stretch his Bulls squad Foyle fears games may stretch his Bulls squad

MANAGER Martin Foyle says Hereford United’s fixture backlog could take its toll on his small squad.

Between now and the end April 20, the Bulls are playing almost twice a week to fit in their remaining 16 matches brought about by recent postponements.

However, with only 20 players available to him when all are fit, boss Foyle is concerned it will stretch the Edgar Street outfit’s resources to the limit.

The Hereford boss, whose side visit Cambridge United in the Blue Square Bet Premier today (3pm), said: “We’re playing catch-up on what is probably a ridiculous amount of fixtures for the size of the squad.

“We can’t chop and change, and we’re finding it hard at the moment.

“Now we have another away game at Cambridge, a decent side, and we have to make sure we’re right, we rest up correctly.

But the games are coming thick and fast, Saturday and Tuesday, and we haven’t got a break after all the games were called off.”

Financial constraints meant they travelled to and from last Saturday’s match at Ebbsfleet United in Kent on the same day without a stop-over.

“We got straight off the coach and played a football match, which isn’t really the right preparation, but I’m not using that as an excuse, we certainly didn’t look sharp,” Foyle added.

“I’m disappointed we were probably a yard off the pace, but credit to Ebbsfleet, they were the better side.”
