Worcester City bid to motor against Vauxhall
WORCESTER City are determined to end their four-match losing streak with a morale-boosting performance at Vauxhall Motors tomorrow (3pm).
City have endured their worst spell of the season following defeats to Solihull Moors, Harrogate, Guiseley and last Saturday’s 5-0 drubbing at Halifax.
They are down to 10th in Blue Square Bet North and in desperate need of a win to halt the slide.
Manager Carl Heeley accepted they were well beaten by Halifax but insisted the players were hurt by the defeat and wanted to put it right.
He said: “We were all disappointed and nobody more so than me because we are up and down which is frustrating.
“We are capable but, when you have a poor performance, it’s easy for people to say there is no effort and we don’t look bothered.
“But that’s insulting because of course we all care. Sometimes, you are off your game and get found out by a team who are absolutely flying.
“That was the case last weekend but I am determined to bounce back and I want the players to be determined too.
“We will do our best to pick ourselves up and get a positive result because the run has to end sometime.”
Striker Michael Taylor and left-back Shabir Khan could start after recovering from a virus but City may be without up to five players at Vauxhall Motors.
Striker Mike Symons’ ankle injury is not as bad as first feared but he is still unavailable, while captain Stuart Whitehead, left-sided player Danny Edwards (both ankle), centre-half Jacob Rowe (knee) and midfielder Matt Birley (toe) did not train on Tuesday.
Heeley added: “Mike had an X-ray and there are no broken bones, however, there is a sprain and ligaments have been tweaked.
“Unless there is a miracle, he is not going to be fit for the weekend but hopefully it will be weeks out rather than months.”
Motors won 1-0 at Boston United last Saturday, ending a run of three straight defeats to Halifax, Chester and Bradford Park Avenue.
