Warriors back-rower de Carpentier called up to England Sevens squad

WARRIORS back-rower Richard de Carpentier has been drafted into the England squad for this month’s Cathay Pacific HSBC Hong Kong Sevens.
The 22-year-old former Leicester Tigers forward returns to the fold nearly two years after featuring at Murrayfield at the end of the 2010-11 campaign.
England head coach Ben Ryan, who is looking to build on last month’s dramatic victory at the Wellington Sevens, said: “Our thanks go to Worcester for letting Richard train and play with us, which will continue his development as a player.
“He brings extra physicality to our squad and he is a talented back row player with good aerial skills, which means we have a strong core of forwards available to us.”
Meanwhile, scrum-half Shaun Perry marked his return to action with a try and lively 40-minute display as Worcester Cavaliers ran out 66-30 winners over the Army in a high-scoring encounter at Sixways on Wednesday night.
Perry had been ruled out since September with injury, but the former England player produced an impressive first-half and raced over for a well-taken score.
Worcester took control by the break with a brace from hooker Ollie Hayes and further scores from wing Colin Dickson and skipper de Carpentier, while Enosi Nabukebuke also grabbed a double.
Joe Carlisle, de Carpentier, Alastair Thompson, Dickson and John Hughes all touched down in the second-half.
Elsewhere, Warriors youngster Ben Howard switches from full-back to wing for England Under 20s in their Six Nations game against Italy at Northampton’s Franklin’s Gradens stadium on tomorrow (8.05pm).
Two other Sixways prospects have won age-group call-ups with Sam Smith (Old Swinford Hospital) and Dickson (Ellesmere College) being named in the England under 18 clubs and schools squad for Sunday’s clash with Bedford Blues academy at Surrey Sports Park (1pm).
