Carl Heeley: We have to stick to our philosophy

WORCESTER City manager Carl Heeley was left cursing his side’s luck as they went down 1-0 at Vauxhall Motors.

Heeley felt his players were the better team throughout the Rivacre Park contest but Karl Clair’s deflected 55th-minute strike proved decisive.

“On possession we absolutely dominated and were by far and away the better side,” the City boss said.

“There was nothing at all wrong with the application, the work-rate or effort to keep passing the ball.

“But it isn’t going for us at the moment and that sums it up when you get a fluked goal against you which they scarcely deserved.”

Heeley continued: “I thought all our players did well. We put Ashley Sammons in a role where he could dictate the play and he did.

“The passing was superb, we kept the ball but it isn’t about that, you’ve got to have an end product and we didn’t have one.

“For all the possession, we didn’t really create any chances and lacked a cutting edge and that was one aspect of our game that was disappointing.”

Heeley, whose side have now lost five in a row and are down to 12th in Blue Square Bet North, added: “We’ve all been in bad runs before and we’re in one now.

“We had one last season and you’ve just got to get out of it. You’ve got to stick to your philosophy.

“We want to pass the ball around and create chances but we’ve got to work on our final ball because that was lacking. Had it have been there, we would have won the game at a canter.”
