Darts star Terry Jenkins aiming for European success
12:00pm Monday 18th March 2013 in Sport
TERRY Jenkins will continue his bid for success on the European stage when he takes on Tony West in the European Darts Trophy in Germany at the end of the month.
The Ledbury darts star joins a top field of talent in Sindelfingen on March 30 for the second of this year’s eight £100,000 European Tour events.
Seeded ninth, he will be looking to better his 6-2 second round defeat to Richie Burnett in the first event, the UK Masters, which was held in Minehead earlier this month.
Jenkins also reached the fifth round of last Saturday’s third Speedy Services UK Open Qualifier in Wigan.
Following victories over David Pallett (6-2), Joe Bata (6-2), Mark Lawrence (6-0) and Prakash Jiwa (6-2), Jenkins was eventually beaten 6-1 by Mervyn King.
The event was won by young Dutch ace Michael Van Gerwen who also landed a nine-dart finish against fellow countryman Roland Scholten on his way to the title.
Van Gerwen, who beat Michael Smith 6-2 in the final, said: “It’s always nice to win a tournament like this and I’m delighted.
“I know I’m playing well and I’ve shown everyone again today.”
Jenkins, however, was edged out 6-5 by Co Stompe in the first round of yesterday’s fourth Speedy Services UK Open Qualifier.
