Warriors sign Andrew from Pirates Warriors sign Andrew from Pirates

CORNISH Pirates prop Paul Andrew has agreed to join Worcester for next season, while Warriors hooker Ollie Hayes has also agreed terms on a new deal at Sixways.

The 23-year-old Andrew, who made his league debut for Pirates at the age of 19 and has represented Cornwall, Cornwall under 20s and England Conference under 18s, will now follow the familiar path up the M5 to Worcester.

Truro-born Andrew is Worcester’s latest recruit from the Mennaye Field and joins the likes of Blair Cowan, Sam Betty and Ben Gulliver in quitting Pirates in favour of Worcester.

Hayes, who moved to Warriors from Bristol in 2011, has also pledged his future by putting pen to paper on a new contract.

The 22-year-old has made a total of 14 appearances for Worcester, including four in the Aviva Premiership this season. He also scored a memorable first try for the club as Warriors secured a try bonus point against Northampton Saints at Franklins Gardens in September.

Head coach Richard Hill was delighted to continue his squad building for next season by agreeing deals with the young front row pair.

“Paul is a player we’ve been aware of for some time. We keep a track on the best players in each position and have seen Paul’s progress in the Championship. He is similar to George Porter in that he has massive potential and will only get better.

“Paul is another excellent product of Cornish Pirates, where he has been well coached and developed, and his attitude is excellent. He will add depth to our first team squad and we are excited that he will join us.”

Hill added: “In the front row, you have got to do your apprenticeship and next year is undoubtedly a big season for Ollie. We feel he can make the step up to play first team rugby in the Premiership and that’s why we’ve re-signed him.

“He is a very dedicated individual and a very good all-round player who can carry and has excellent hands. Now is the time for him to make the step up.

“This is not a decision we have taken lightly, but Ollie really is the modern day hooker and we have put our faith in him.”

Ha Ha well done zx12r in future you are welcome to use the 'flat earth' description at your discretion as your reward ! Now can we have a quote from our own 'exclusive reporter' on any details of the new technical director coach and assistant please please pretty please ?

Many thanks 'dulon', at least he will bring a touch of youth to the proceedings rather than the 30+ somethings that normally stumble from the revolving door. Just wish they would bring Phil Burgess with him, a quicker No 6 would be harder to find.
Paul Hayward (Telegraph) said it all this morning after the England debacle, with five players England should turn to, guess who his 4th selection was, yup' Matt Kvesic, & I quote 'The best No 7 in the Premiership'. Why was he not offered the 'golden contract' instead of a 30+ prop who wont play on Sundays.
So we are having more coaches are we, I hope they will be replacing the lot we have now cos' they have done nothing & it will be very interesting to see how many season tickets are sold for next year if nothing drastic is done.

zxr12 ~ I thought Burgess was a 7?

Looks a good prospect for us to work with over the next few years, at 23 he is very young for a British front row but looking forward to see what he can do.

Don't think we need to change the coaches but we do need to change the players which we are doing.

Kev was offered more money to stay at Worcester but he wanted to join Gloucester where Stanley the ex Warriors academy coach now works, a man Kev has said has had a great influence on his career. His family are also Gloucester supporters so perhaps he feels that was the right club.

Not sure why you are so annoyed that we have a player who has strong religious beliefs, as mentioned clubs have to agree to have games changed to a sunday so Warriors won't be agreeing to many but the likes of London Irish and London Welsh are dictated by the fixtures of the football clubs.

As for renewing season tickets I certainly will be renewing my 2 tickets. I enjoy going to Sixways where we always get good rugby, just sometimes it is from the side we are playing. Warriors are moving forwards I think next season we will finish 7th in the league and hopefully have a good cup run in either the Amlin cup or LV cup. We are a lot better to watch than 3 or 4 years ago even if results don't go our way.

I dont know where the other flat earth lot get the impression that the warriors are improving . The performances upto the wasps game were woeful . In fact I refer you back to the Sale game that I had the privilege of listening to instead of watching . Dave Bradley was in despair and so too was his co-presenter whose name escapes me but I believe it was an injured player. They were both absolutely dismayed by the sight in front of them .
The art of consistency is a prerequisite to success . Hill and his minions do not possess the ability to impart that quality . The current haemmorage of talent is indicative of a lack of confidence in my opinion . If I might make a comparison with a certain Manchester football team even when they play mediocre football they still get results . Our lot ,until the last game, only played for 75 minutes and then started thinking about the nights party down at Bushies . The coach has had plenty of time to sort that out ....

Whilst I was in the South West, I also attended the Div 2 South game between Redruth & Hartpury, if for no other reason than to say hello to an old friend Chris Fortey who captains Hartpury.
This was a cracker of a game with Chris being sent off (again) but played with no little skill by both teams.
The Hartpury team consisted of a couple of 'old heads' & the rest basically Gloucester's reserves & academy players.
My thoughts were why can't Worcester do something like this, keep players playing together week in week out, playing to the basic game plan of the first team........then I woke up remembering it was Worcester I was thinking about.

Dulon improving does not mean where we need to be but we are heading in the right direction. We finally play some attacking rugby, we have scored more tries than any other premiership season and we have even gained 3 try bonus points.

We have failed to be consistent this season that has been the issue, we have had some shockers in terms of performance especially away from home. It is short sighted so say that with correct decisions from referees we would be in a much better position, while clearly we would that position would be a false one. We are where we are in the league because of how we have performed and it is a fair reflection we have flirted with relegation but not really be involved in the battle, just like we flirted with the idea of a fantastic season but didn't do that either.

The club will talk up top 6 next year I don't think we will achieve it as I said 7th should be the aim.

The Warriors are improving we have been brilliant at times this season, and also awful at times. Your idea that we are awful and always have been and always will be is short sighted and ignorant of the facts, while it has not been the steep improvement the club had hoped we have shown progress albeit slow progress and only a fool would say otherwise.

Why oh why do we have this view that the team has not improved this season. We have more bonus points than any other team in the league, thus showing a massive improvement in previous year. I have had a season ticket for years, and for me I am looking forward to next season with slightly more optimism than previous years.
Looking forward to see the new guys with more to come!

Hill should be kicking the door down to sign him before Josh Lucy takes over as Pirates new Technical Director.
With the new stadium now firmly on the horizon Lucy will be keen to keep hold of all the better players.
Once that stadium is built, money will not be a problem in Cornwall.
See you all at Rotherham this weekend.
