WARRIORS head coach Richard Hill believes the scoreline in his side’s thrashing at Saracens wasn’t a fair reflection of the game.

As the on-song hosts moved clear of Worcester in the match, Hill’s men were forced to take more and more risks which, he says, played into Sarries’ hands.

The title-chasing hosts ran in six tries to Worcester’s two as they secured a home tie for the Aviva Premiership semi-finals.

Hill said: “It was a disappointing result for us and I don’t think we expected to lose by that margin.

“Unfortunately, we were chasing the game right at the end and gave away a couple of silly tries from our own five-metre line, which wasn’t very realistic.

“We made a slow start to the game and Saracens played very well.

“It took us a while to get used to the pace of the pitch, which is definitely faster and we had a job to cope with Saracens’ attack as they kept the ball alive on a fast pitch.”

Hill added: “At half-time, the players came in and said they were getting a second wind and getting used to the pace of the pitch.

“In the second-half, I thought we played pretty well for 15 minutes and, at 23-17, momentarily Saracens were a little bit rattled, but they pulled away at the end.

“When they went 30-17 up, we were then forced to chase the game against the wind and we disappointingly conceded a couple of tries being turned over on our own line.

“We wouldn’t normally do that and I’d hope the scoreline would not normally be like that in a proper game.

“We did try to run the ball out a bit suicidally against their very good defence and it cost us a couple of tries, which was a shame and looks bad on the scoreboard.

“Some of our players were encouraged by some of the plays we made and we scored two tries which is good down there.

“We also made a few line-breaks and kept the ball reasonably well at times, so it wasn’t all bad.

“Our defence failed to cope with the pace Saracens had and they are coming on form now and are a good team that is going for the championship.”
