THERE could be more players joining new-look Worcester Wolves as they step up their preparations for the new British Basketball League season.

American centres Will Creekmore and Ian Salter, who can also both operate as power forwards, have signed in the past week, adding to fellow summer recruits Zaire Taylor and Jamal Williams.

In Creekmore, Taylor and the re-signed Alex Owumi, Wolves have the maximum number of non-EU players permitted under league rules, which allow five non-UK passport holders in total.

With Salter and Williams holding UK passports, director of basketball Paul James can still add two more EU-based players to his squad.

He said: “There still could be more signings. “I have two EU spots open to me but I don’t have to use them.

“I like the way we are starting to shape up on paper so let’s see what we are like on the floor.”

Power forward Stan Ocitti would qualify as he has a Dutch passport but is unlikely to return following the completion of his studies at the University of Worcester.

The quota does not affect forward Kai Williams, who has a British passport, but Wolves are in the dark over his future despite offering him a contract.

James added: “We haven’t heard anything back from Kai so I can only presume that he’s going somewhere else or is looking elsewhere.

“I think it’s fair to say Stan is looking at opportunities outside of basketball now. He’s had a great career, travelled all over the world and now he’s looking at other options.”

Last season, Wolves had three players from the EU in Carlos Fernandez, Arturas Masiulis and Arnas Kazlauskas, which only left space for two Americans — Owumi and Sherrad Prezzie-Blue.
