Gamble doesn’t pay off for the Robins
7:00pm Sunday 25th August 2013 in Sport
EVESHAM United were trounced 6-0 at Wimborne Town, leaving the Robins without a win in the Calor League Division One South and West.
A hat-trick by Mark Gamble helped Wimborne to a convincing victory and left Evesham with just one point out of a possible nine.
Wimborne opened the game strongly with Gamble, James Stokoe and Sam Griffin all going close to breaking the deadlock.
After a period of pressure, the Evesham defence was finally breached on 30 minutes. Gamble cut in from the left and beat keeper John Bateman with a low drive at his near post.
The lead was doubled five minutes later when Bateman was judged to have brought down Gamble in the box and Hubbard tucked away the spot-kick.
Two goals, however, in quick succession at the start of the second-half put the game firmly out of Evesham’s reach.
Gamble got down the left before squaring for Hubbard to score, then five minutes in, Gamble rounded Bateman after racing clear to slot in number four.
Gamble went on to complete his hat-trick on the hour, heading home George Webb’s cross to make it 5-0.
Wimborne substitute Matt Kemble compounded United’s miserable afternoon in Dorset by firing under Bateman for number six with 12 minutes remaining.
Evesham United: Bateman, Williams, Wilson, Richards, Sysum, Batfield, Brown (Holloway 45), Barnfield, Palmer, Dovey, Jackson. Subs not used: Rodrigues, Gould, Millard, McGee.
