Heeley: We are much stronger than at the start of the season
11:00am Thursday 19th September 2013 in Sport
MANAGER Carl Heeley believes Worcester City are stronger now than they were when the season began despite being winless in eight games.
The Blue and Whites would be propping up Skrill North but for Ethan Moore’s penalty five minutes into injury time which rescued a 2-2 draw against fellow strugglers Gainsborough Trinity.
City remain in the bottom three but have demonstrated plenty of potential this term, including in the first-half on Tuesday.
Heeley has also added experience to the ranks with midfielders Phil Trainer and Richard Taundry joining centre-half Exodus Geohaghon and keeper Jose Veiga in recent days.
Trainer, 32, is on loan from Premier Division Nuneaton for a month, while Taundry was released by League One Walsall during the summer.
“Players are becoming available now as they often do a month or so into the season,” the Worcester boss explained. “If you look at players we’ve brought in and the credentials of Richard Taundry and Phil Trainer, they will get better and improve us as a squad.
“I think we’re stronger than we were at the start of the season.
“We would have liked to get more balance into the squad earlier in the season but the bottom line was we were always going to get outbid and we needed to be patient and wait for players to become available.”
There are no plans to bring in more fresh faces before Saturday’s visit of Workington.
