Wolves looking to bring down the Giants in BBL Cup
10:40am Friday 18th October 2013 in Sport
WORCESTER Wolves aim to transfer their unbeaten start in the British Basketball League to the BBL Cup tonight when they host winless Manchester Giants (7.30).
The University Arena team are the early pace-setters in the championship table after winning all four of their matches so far, while the Giants are bottom.
The focus now switches to another piece of silverware and Wolves are intent on continuing their fine run, which saw them beat both London Lions and Cheshire Phoenix in thrilling overtime matches last week.
There is also the incentive of a quarter-final trip to Leicester Riders for the winners.
“We’ve set our goals and, come Christmas, we still want to be in every competition,” said director of basketball Paul James.
“Winning is a habit and a great feeling so we’ve just got to know that if we go out and play in the right way we’re going to give ourselves a chance to win.
“The last two games have been close calls but we found a way to win which is fantastic so confidence is really high and the players are working extremely hard.”
James, whose side also visit Birmingham Knights in the league on Sunday, is hoping for another large crowd at the arena in Hylton Road.
He added: “I hope those people who came and saw the thrilling over-time game against Cheshire will want to see more and tell their friends about it.
“Hopefully, we’ll have another solid crowd here and we can get another good win.”
