Youngsters eager to share City's FA Cup limelight

WHILE Worcester City are one win away from the FA Cup first round proper, the club’s youngsters are bidding for their own slice of success in the competition.
The Blue and Whites beat Rugby Town 2-0 in Tuesday’s third qualifying round replay to set up a meeting against Lincoln City at Aggborough next Saturday.
But, just three days before that showdown with the Skrill Premier side, the academy team launch their quest to reach the FA Youth Cup first round proper for the first time.
Having already beaten Ellesmere Rangers and Boldmere St Michaels, the teenagers host Rugby Town at their Studley FC base in the third qualifying round on Wednesday (7.45pm).
Under manager and former Worcester striker Mark Owen, the team, run in conjunction with Worcester College of Technology, are playing for the chance to host Halesowen Town in the next round.
Owen said: “We have got to this round before but have never got past this stage. It will be a chance to make a bit of history for the club.”
Striker James Lemon, who made his mark for the senior team with a goal in the 4-0 victory over Coventry Sphinx, will be among those on show. Admission is £3 and £1.
Meanwhile, excitement continues to build ahead of Worcester’s match against Lincoln as they seek to book a potential date against Football League opposition.
Captain Tom Thorley said: “It’s a great tie at home so we will go into that confident as well dreaming we can progress to the first round proper.
“It was heart-breaking last year against Bromley given the circumstances of the game; we can’t get too carried away but we go into the game thinking that we can get through.”
Striker Danny Glover was on the scoresheet with Thorley against Rugby and was pleased to give the supporters something to cheer.
He added: “I’d just like to thank the fans for sticking by us, they came out again on Tuesday and it’s as much for them as it is for us.”
