Worcester Warriors v Sale Sharks
This live event has finished
- WELCOME to Sixways as Warriors look to build on their 9-9 Amlin Challenge Cup draw at Oyonnax last weekend.
- Today's visitors are fellow Aviva Premiership side Sale Sharks, who top Pool One after beating Biarritz 33-10 in the competition's opening round, and kick-off is at 3pm.
Worcester showed a bit of fight in the second-half, but the damage had been done during a woeful first 40 minutes.
The slippery ball evades Worcester as they look to grab a point out of the game and Sale are able to clear.
Warriors 15-29 Sale
Into the final minute and Warriors have a line-out by the Sale corner flag. They need a seven-pointer to snatch a bonus point.
Mieres launches another penalty to touch in the Sale 22 after the visitors stary off-side. Try again....
Jonny Arr hit for feeding the scrum. That's two big opportunities Warriors have wasted in the last couple of minutes. Poor from the hosts.
Warriors lose the line-out after Mieres penalty into the Sale 22...
Worcester just about keep their line intact as Cipriani fails to get on the end of his chip in behind.
Warriors' scrum is penalised in their own 22 and Cipriani fires the ball to the corner.
The rain's stopped....and so have Warriors.
Try Sale! The visitors quell the home fightback with another try from a driving maul and it's the bonus point score for the visitors as Mark Easter touches down. Cipriani can't add the extras.
Warriors 15-29 Sale
Sale coming back into the game now, forcing penalties in the Warriors 22.
Josh Drauniniu limps off to be replaced by Ben Howard.
@tomguestWN bet that made you choke on yer pasty!— @KarlDunlop 19 October 2013
@tomguestWN Sat in sunshine outside village pub in Cambridge, eating cream tea, thinking of you !!— @braddersatbbc 19 October 2013
TRY Warriors! A complete turnaround as the Warriors pack are now dominating at the set-piece. A powerful driving line-out and Mike Williams emerges with the ball!
Warwick even adds the extras, despite the downpour!
Warriors 14-24 Sale
The Sale pack is now under pressure and Warriors look much better this half already. Turned down the posts again to go to the corner and Sale pull the line-out down, another penalty.
Monsoon at Sixways!
It's all Warriors at the moment, but there's still a hell of a long way to go to get back into this game.
Also, I'm pretty sure Agustin Creevy is on for his Warriors debut.
TRY Warriors! Worcester have started the second-half really well and the pressure tells on 14-man Sale as the hosts create a huge overlap and Alex Grove dives over. Warwick just misses the kick, but the conditions are very tough for kicking!
Warriors 8-24 Sale
Is the tide turning.....? Warriors win a penalty and kick to touch instead of going for goal.
From the kick-off, Sam Tuitupou is sin-binned for an altercation. Didn't see what happened though!
We're back under way here at Sixways and it is absolutely hosing down. Maybe that could help Warriors...?!
@tomguestWN @braddersatbbc @WorcsWarriors I think that's the worst 1st half in 10 years of watching ww— @comeonuwarriors 19 October 2013
@tomguestWN we have spent the best part of 30 seconds in their 22, that pretty much somes it up— @luke_hamblett 19 October 2013
@tomguestWN I hope this is gods way of helping us #letitrain— @badmand1 19 October 2013
@tomguestWN awful. I pay a lot of money for this and we are being completely outplayed in every department. Just not good enough.— @Bigchap27 19 October 2013
@tomguestWN the worst 40 mins in living memory. Not good enough.— @FineTime586 19 October 2013
@tomguestWN Performance... Is that what you call it.Depressing on the radio. Imagine paying to watch it— @Clarke1nil 19 October 2013
@tomguestWN no comment, raining at least so could make things interesting! #alwaysrainingforwarriorsfans— @AndyC1968 19 October 2013
@tomguestWN shocker :( New front row please. Only good bit of today is seeing Big Dave getting huge round of applause before the game..— @wiiaholic 19 October 2013
The lovely afternoon I mentioned earlier is no longer anywhere to be seen as it is hosing it down at Sixways underneath slate grey skies.
I imagine the mood will be even darker in the home dressing room after a chastening first-half for Dean Ryan's men...
Andrei Ostrikov is off-side on half-way with the clock dead and Jonathan Thomas tells Warwick to just kick the ball off so Warriors can head to the changing rooms and regroup after a punishing forst 40 minutes.
Despite having a line-out on the Sale 22, Warriors concede a try within a matter of seconds...
Sam Tuitupou strips the ball off a Worcester player in midfield and Sale counter. Warriors kick clear, but the ball is fired out wide to Tom Arscott who scorches down the wing and the ball is quickly recycled to Dwayne Peel, who dives over in the corner.
Cipriani converts again.
Warriors 3-24 Sale
@tomguestWN Lets just call the season over and raise the white flags. Very depressing viewing— @totalprat 19 October 2013
Sale infringe again as a Chris Pennell counter-attack is illegally halted on the floor. Warwick finds touch on the Sale 22.
Some respite for Worcester's under fire scrum as they go backwards on their own put-in again, but Sale are hit for side entry.
This is already looking like being a very long afternoon for Warriors. Second best in every department at the moment.
The Worcester seven-man scrum completely folds under huge pressure as Sale turn up the heat and referee Andrew McMenemy gives the hosts no benefit of the doubt and is straight under the posts with his arm aloft for a penalty try. Cipriani adds the routine conversion.
Warriors 3-17 Sale
Galarza is sin-binned as Warriors cynically drag down yet another barnstorming Sale line-out drive.
Worcester are coming off second best up front at the moment and, consequently, seeing very little of the ball. Don't think they've been in the Sale 22 yet.
Cipriani misses the straight-forward effort and grimaces afterwards, not sure whether he is struggling with a groin/thogh problem.
Warriors are struggling to contain the Sale driving line-out and they infringe again. Cipriani to have another shot at goal.
The Sale pack do an absolute job on the Warriors put-in, driving through fiercly after the ball goes in and forcing the hosts to crumple. Cipriani finds a good touch just inside the 22.
It's been a quiet start for Warriors on the whole, but Mariano Galarza has been lively on his home debut.
TRY Sale! With the referee playing penalty advantage to Sale as Warriors infringe trying to defend a driving line-out, the visitors play the ball.
Mark Cueto makes good yards with a spin out of the tackle, the ball is recycled quickly and Rob Miller runs onto Cipriani's big miss-pass at pace to shred the home defence and score. Cipriani adds the extras too.
Warriors 3-10 Sale
* Obligatory spell of aimless kicking between both sides *
The score remains 3-3 as Cipriani's effort deflects behind off the outside of the left-hand post.
The scrums have been an absolute mess so far today. The referee seems to signal the ball is out, Su'a doesn't know whether to go for it or not, then the home front row are hit for standing up. Another shot at goal for Cipriani.
Alex Grove looks to float a pass out wide, but gets it all wrong and the ball drifts forwards.
@tomguestWN Honestly the song is growing on me it is much better than Stand up for the Saracens that was played 800 times last night— @totalprat 19 October 2013
Sale penalised for wheeling the scrum and Warwick pumps the ball clear.
@tomguestWN lovely ovation for Big Dave when he arrived to take his seat in the East Stand. Highlight so far!!— @Bigchap27 19 October 2013
Paul Warwick levels the scores here at Sixways.
Warriors 3-3 Sale
Good come-back from Warriors as they pile into the Sale half and visiting prop Eifion Lewis-Roberts is guilty of not rolling away.
The former England man chips the ball between the posts.
Warriors 0-3 Sale
Cipriani should open the scoring here as Warriors are hit for going off their feet 35 metres out, bang in front of the sticks.
Half-backs Dwayne Peel and Danny Cipriani have been central for Sale so far, but a knock-on hands the ball back to Warriors.
Arscott tries to chip the ball over Chris Pennell, who stands his ground and takes out his former team-mate - nothing doing there for the visitors.
First penalty goes to Sale as Warriors are in front of Jeremy Su'a's clearing box-kick.
RT @FineTime586: Great to see Big Dave at Sixways #coyw #worcswarriors— @tomguestWN 19 October 2013
Tevita Taumoepeau, Warriors legend!
The Sale players are out on the pitch, including former Warriors Tom Arscott and Sam Tuitupou.
Here come Worcester to the ever-popular strains of 'We Are Warriors.....'
Five minutes to kick-off here at Sixways...
Also, here's an interview I did with Max Stelling, who starts at inside-centre for Warriors today.
Interesting to see Warriors have slashed their ticket prices for the forthcoming Bath game.
Attendances have been poor so far this term, so good to see the club looking to take action.
Update: I found sandwiches and a team-sheet, but didn't manage the cup of tea. Two out of three ain't bad though.
Here's today's two line-ups: http://t.co/GEMyo9aJ4O— @tomguestWN 19 October 2013
Looks like a lovely afternoon for rugby here at Sixways, but which Warriors side will turn up?
I'm off to find three pre-match essentials: Team-sheet, cup of tea, sandwiches. I'll report back on the success of my mission shortly.
