I DON’T blame Kidderminster Harriers’ Steve Burr for talking to Forest Green Rovers or dropping out of the running for the manager’s job at their big-spending rivals.

Burr's record so far means he thoroughly deserves the chance to manage a bigger club or, as in Rovers’ case, one with a seemingly bottomless pit of cash in Skrill Premier terms.

But I can also see exactly why the 50-year-old feels the Gloucestershire outfit are not right for him compared to the ongoing title chase back at Aggborough.

Since taking over in 2010, Burr has gradually built a formidable Harriers unit with a mix of experience and promise and so nearly led them to the title last season.

To walk away when Kidderminster are just six points off leaders Cambridge United and in the FA Cup first round would have been harsh.

But I believe most people would at least have wanted to sound out 15th-placed Forest Green with the promise of a bigger salary and the potential to splash the cash on players.

Burr decided to stay put but the worrying thing for Harriers’ fans is their manager’s stock is rising and surely it can only be a matter of time before a Football League side come knocking.
