MANAGER Carl Heeley says Worcester City will not let their FA Trophy success distract them from picking up vital points in the league.

City set up a second round match against Aldershot Town later this month after defeating rivals Telford 3-0 in Tuesday’s first round replay.

But on Sunday they return to the business of climbing away from the Skrill North relegation zone when they host Oxford City at Aggborough (3pm).

While the Blue and Whites are five games unbeaten in all competitions, they have only won twice in the league all season and are just one point above the bottom three.

Heeley now wants his players to continue their good form and extend that sequence to leap-frog their opponents in the table.

“Aldershot away is a great tie for the club, it’s one that we don’t have to fear, we can go there full of confidence but before we start focusing on the next round, we’ve got an important league fixture at home against Oxford City.

“It’s vital that we try and pick some points up from that game.

“We are in a false position in the league, we know that, but you have to win games and stick the ball in the net and defend properly.

“We’ve got a long way to go, we’re not going to get carried away with it. There’s a lot of work to do and a long way to go.”

Tuesday’s victory at Telford was Worcester’s 12th clean sheet of the campaign, one of which came against Oxford when the sides played out a drab 0-0 draw at Marsh Lane in October.

Mike Ford’s men are only two points better off in the league than City after they beat Vauxhall Motors 3-0 at the weekend, including a goal for former Worcester marksman Mike Symons.

Heeley added: “It’s about momentum and building blocks.

“We’ve said all along that if we’re tough to beat and keep clean sheets, you’ve always got an opportunity to win.”

On-loan Port Vale striker Dominic Dell could keep his place in the side after impressing against Telford but top-scorer Ethan Moore will be eager for a recall.

Midfielder Steven Leslie was left out of the starting 11 in mid-week to protect a hamstring injury but could return.

Centre-half Shabir Khan begins a two-match ban following his sending off in the 2-1 victory at Stalybridge Celtic last month.

The Oxford match is taking place on Sunday as landlords Kidderminster Harriers are in FA Cup second round action at Aggborough tomorrow.
