HEREFORD United host Nuneaton Town tomorrow (3pm) hoping to breathe some life back into their flagging season.

Following last Saturday’s 3-0 FA Trophy defeat to Woking, the Bulls are now out of both major cup competitions and are also at the wrong end of the Skrill Premier table.

Although they were unbeaten in four league games prior to the Woking reverse, crashing out of the Trophy has done nothing for morale at Edgar Street.

With finances tight and the club having this week cut back on their catering operations in a bid to reduce expenditure, a relegation battle is unlikely to inspire fans through the turnstile, now Hereford’s chief source of income.

Martin Foyle’s side are six points above the bottom three and take on a Nuneaton team who have won their last four matches, including three in the league to occupy the final play-off spot.

However, only five points separate United from 12th-placed Forest Green Rovers so a victory would edge them closer to mid-table safety.

The lack of funds has left Foyle with little room for manoeuvre when it comes to freshening up his squad, with a number of players still struggling with injuries.

Midfielder Rob Purdie and skipper Luke Graham have both been sidelined with foot problems and remain doubtful for the week.

There is better news on the wing with Danny Pilkington making progress from a hamstring injury and Kingsley James, who has not played for two months because of a knee complaint, on the mend.

On-loan Torquay United midfielder Damon Lathrope could return after being left out of the Woking match as he is on four bookings and Foyle did not want to risk him picking up a suspension.

But this looks set to be his last game for the club as his loan expires before the Bulls’ next match against Cambridge United on December 21.
