KIDDERMINSTER Harriers chairman Mark Serrell has called on the club’s fans to spur the team on to FA Cup success against Newport County today (3pm).

The sides meet in a mouth-watering second round clash at Aggborough that carries both a £27,000 winners’ cheque and a coveted place in the third round.

Home attendances have been high this season with the gate being in excess of 2,000 on eight occasions.

Serrell believes that has played a major role in Harriers’ cup run, as well as them remaining in the Skrill Premier title race, and wants that to continue against the League Two play-off hopefuls.

“I have to say that the atmosphere at Aggborough for home matches this season has been the best I have encountered in my time at the club,” he said.

“I often talk about the one game against Fleetwood a few years ago and other notable games we have had where the atmosphere has been really memorable.

“This season, almost every game has been like that and the noise generated – not only behind the goal in the North Stand but also elsewhere as well, has been superb.

“It makes a huge difference and I think our fans will have seen that reflected in the team’s performances.”

The Kidderminster chief added: “They make a great noise and always have so there will be an extra little job for our supporters to make sure they win the singing contests!

“It makes for the perfect FA Cup match and hopefully we’ll be able to upset the odds and go and get the result.”
