MANAGER Carl Heeley said he was at a loss to explain Worcester City’s dismal home defeat to Oxford City.

Following a week that had seen City reach the second round of the FA Trophy against Aldershot, they came crashing down to earth with a bump at Aggborough yesterday.

Two goals in five first-half minutes proved decisive as the Blue and Whites, who had been on a high after their Trophy replay win at Telford, had a game to forget in front of their own fans.

Heeley said: “I think we’ve seen the good and the bad of Worcester City in the space of five days because as good as we’ve been in the last few weeks, we were as bad yesterday.

“It’s incredibly frustrating. It was the same 11 players but from the first whistle we were second best all over the park.

“I thought we got bullied in certain areas and they dominated the first and second ball.

“I’m at a loss to put my finger on how you can have such contrasting perform-ances from the Telford game but that’s happened. We have to dust ourselves down, pick on the little things that have got us positive results and try to put them back into our game.

“I’m very disappointed in our performance and frustrated, as the lads and rest of the staff are. I think we’re a better side than that and we haven’t shown it. We’re not a good side when we don’t score the first goal.

“We conceded two sloppy goals and we gave ourselves a mountain to climb and, if I’m honest, I think 2-0 flattered us because we were second best throughout.

“It was a game we were looking to win but we didn’t deserve anything. Credit to Oxford, they showed more desire than us and we got what we deserved.”

The Worcester boss, whose side have still only won twice in Skrill North this season, continued: “We’ve had a good little run but we’re still in and around the danger zone and we’ve got to start winning at home.

“We’re not fluent enough. We don’t pass the ball well enough here.

“It’s league points we desperately need and that’s the disappointing aspect. We’ve earned a bit of money in the Trophy and got a good game to look forward to but we haven’t picked up many league points and that’s the bread and butter.”
