CARL Heeley is hoping to plot an FA Trophy upset this weekend and wants to use the game as a springboard to reignite Worcester City’s league campaign.

City travel to Hampshire to face higher-ranked Aldershot Town tomorrow (3pm) in round two of the competition and manager Heeley feels an away win is not out of the question.

Although the Shots are a division above Skrill North Worcester, they have struggled this term after suffering a 10-point deduction for going into administration and are currently fourth-from-bottom.

Heeley’s men had been beginning to find some form in recent weeks but slumped to a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Oxford City at Aggborough last Sunday.

The City boss is at a loss to explain his charge’s Oxford showing, however, he believes tomorrow’s Trophy tester is a good opportunity to change focus.

He said: “We are playing in the FA Trophy this weekend, so it gives us a break from our league campaign, but we need to use the game to try to get back on a bit of a run.

“We were all disappointed by our performance against Oxford on Sunday as we didn’t reach anywhere near the standards we had set in the previous five or six matches.

“The Aldershot game will be a chance for us to create an upset.

“They have had their difficulties this season, like we have, but it is a one-off fixture and there’s no reason why we can’t win it.

“I have no idea how performances like the one we produced against Oxford City happen — it is just one of those things in football sometimes and we can’t allow ourselves to dwell on it or over-analyse it. We just need to move on.”

Heeley has been boosted by the return to fitness of several key defenders as, at one stage, it was looking as though City would be short of options at the back.

The manager explained: “Matt Regan’s loan spell doesn’t finish until January, so he will be available, and hopefully Graham Hutchison will be fit too, which means we have some cover at the back. Richard Munday and Sam Smith trained this week as well, so things are improving in that department.”

Should a replay be required after tomorrow's match, it would take place at Aggborough on Tuesday.
