Quality not quantity is Heeley’s recruitment policy

Worcester News: CARL HEELEY: On the look-out for new signings. CARL HEELEY: On the look-out for new signings.

MANAGER Carl Heeley remains on the hunt for Worcester City reinforcements, but insists he won’t bring players in just for the sake of it.

The Blue and Whites’ boss is operating with a small squad and is always on the look-out for people to improve what he has at his disposal.

However, he doesn’t believe he will have signed anyone new in time for today’s FA Trophy second round clash with Aldershot (3pm).

He said: “We have a lot of games coming up over Christmas and we don’t have a big squad, so we will have to have a look at the situation.

“However, any players we bring in have to be better than what we already have, so I won’t be getting people in just for the sake of having the numbers — they will have to add something to us.

“Everyone is in the same boat at the moment, though, so clubs don’t want to let players go out if they can avoid it because of the number of games coming up over the festive period.

“Nothing is going to happen for us before today’s game with Aldershot.”

Meanwhile, with City having finally been released from the contract with property developer St Modwen that tied the club to the ill-fated Nunnery Way move, Heeley believes there is cause for optimism.

He added: “When you look back at the last four or five years for Worcester City, there is nothing we can do about what has happened now as you cannot affect what’s happened in the past.

“We need to forget about everything that has happened to this club and the way things have turned out now is the best possible outcome to the bad situation we found ourselves in.

“We all need to move forward and things look much more positive for the future of this football club now.Kidderminster Harriers have been brilliant with us and very supportive — we couldn’t have wished for more from our neighbours.

“However, it is imperative that Worcester City Football Club returns back to the city it belongs in as soon as possible.

“When that has happened we can really build upon the fanbase we have in the city, as well as continuing to develop our off-field activities in the community too.”
