ONE thing that is not in doubt at Warriors is the team spirit that exists among the players.

Although I didn’t travel to Biarritz, I watched the match on the television and I felt the lads did really well.

The preparation was far from ideal — living off coffees and trying to sleep on the floors of airports — but what was amazing about the way they played was the resolve they showed in such circumstances.

It’s probably an indication of the team spirit of the group that we could face a challenge like that but still front-up in the game.

Considering where we are in the Aviva Premiership, we’ve always had a togetherness and we work as hard as anyone to try and turn the results around so the squad is upbeat.

We know within the group that we’re better than our league position suggests but we’ve got to start showing that to the rest of the league and to our fans. We’ve got to prove that and try and turn this season around.

If you look back over the past few weeks, our performances have improved immeasurably.

Defensively, we are now a tight unit and in attack we have got good shape and I think we are really starting to gel as a team.

We dominated Biarritz in the two games but we lost both and it’s concerning that we can’t nail a result down.

It’s something that will come with improvement and we’ve just got to keep working hard and try and take those chances.

Everyone is looking forward to the Gloucester game on Sunday. Kingsholm, in front of a passionate crowd, is a great place to play rugby. As a player, you want to play in big occasions and there’s none bigger than that fixture.

If we focus on performance and getting our bit right then the outcome will be a victory but we can’t get ahead of ourselves, we haven’t won a game yet and we know that we’ve got to work incredibly hard if we want to win.

Elsewhere, it was fantastic to see Alex Grove join Chris Pennell in committing his future to the club.

They are intelligent players and can see what the potential is at Sixways, especially under Dean Ryan’s leadership.

Sometimes you need to look at the bigger picture and while there’s understandably a lot of doom and gloom with sections of the media and fans, the fact that they have re-signed is an indication of how much faith they have in the current regime and the way the club are headed.

It’s reassuring for the Warriors fans.
