Worcester News: Carl Hogg wants his new club to rule at Kingsholm Carl Hogg wants his new club to rule at Kingsholm

CARL Hogg says friendships will go out of the window for 80 minutes tomorrow when Warriors lock horns with Gloucester at Kingsholm (2pm).

The Sixways head coach made the short switch up the M5 in the summer to join director of rugby Dean Ryan’s regime, ending a seven-year association with the Cherry and Whites.

Tomorrow’s Aviva Premier-ship derby will be the Scot’s first return to his former employers, where Ryan was also in charge between 2005 and 2009, but he insists a Warriors victory is his only focus.

He said: “It’s a fixture I was looking forward to. When I moved up to Worcester the first fixture I looked at was Gloucester home and away because I spent seven good years down there.

“It was a place I thoroughly enjoyed and was honoured to be involved with but we are making strides and progress and tomorrow is an opportunity to put that to the test.

“It’s a tough place to go and they’re a good side so we’ve got to go about it professionally and I will try and be as professional as I possibly can. I’ve still got links down there but tomorrow is about business and going there and doing a professional job.”

Hogg, capped five times by his country, added: “Kings-holm is a place where you can’t help but be inspired as opposition or a home team so it’s a great place to play rugby and I’m looking forward to it.

“It can be an intimidating atmosphere but somewhere I’m sure our players will enjoy.

“I think both clubs would like to be in a different position in the table but we are where we are and we’ve just got to focus on performance.”
