MANAGER Carl Heeley says he always believed Worcester City could mix it with the best sides in Skrill North.

Despite being fourth-from-bottom in the table, the Blue and Whites have taken four points from their last two games.

They followed up last Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Harrogate Town with a 1-1 draw at Solihull Moors on Boxing Day, which saw Ethan Moore equalise with three minutes to go.

Solihull and Harrogate both harbour aspirations of reaching at least the play-offs yet City have more than matched them both.

Worcester now head into today’s derby against Gloucester City at Aggborough (3pm) looking to extend their unbeaten run to three games.

Heeley said: “Why are we where we are? It’s because we haven’t scored enough goals. Why’s that? Because we can’t afford a top-quality striker or one that guarantees you goals.

“But we’ve got some good lads here and players like Ethan Moore and Daniel Nti are rising back through the leagues and are still unproven.

“Danny Glover will be frustrated with his return but he’s a good, honest lad and brings a lot to the team.

“I didn’t really need convincing that we could compete with the best sides because we’ve done it all season.

“If we keep focusing and committing ourselves as we have of late, and have done for most of this season, we’ll be absolutely fine.”

Moore fired his ninth goal of the season in securing a point at Damson Park, which keeps Worcester above the relegation zone by a point following Gloucester’s 1-0 defeat at Oxford City.

Heeley was happy with the outcome but reckoned his side were worthy of more against a Moors outfit that finished with 10 men after Michael Blackwood picked up two bookings.

“I think before the game we would certainly have been satisfied with a point,” the City boss said.

“Solihull are having a great season but, on the balance of the game, I just feel slightly disappointed because I thought we were the better team throughout and deserved to win the game.

“They got a goal against the run of play but that’s football. Credit to our boys, their heads didn’t go down, they kept going, passed the ball, created opportunities and got their just rewards late on.

“We kept pushing and created a couple more opportunities to nick the three points at the end.

“In all honesty, even with them having 11 men, we were the better team and I think Solihull will be satisfied with a point because, with respect, it was probably the most they deserved.”
