THE chant of ‘who ate all the pies’ is a common one at football grounds up and down the country.

But during Worcester City’s match against rivals Gloucester on Saturday, fans were left asking ‘who threw all the pies?’ after an unsavoury incident at the club’s adopted home of Aggborough, which they share with Kidderminster Harriers.

Several Worcester supporters were pelted with pastries as trouble flared during Saturday’s Skrill North match, which was won 1-0 by the visitors.

The disorder kicked-off in the corner of the main stand at the start of the second-half as hungry fans from the Gloucester end were escorted back from the food kiosks by stewards.

With measures to segregate fans of the two clubs put in place just an hour before kick-off, there was not enough time to organise separate catering for visiting supporters.

Stewards were then required to escort the fans back to their designated section of the ground after purchasing their pies.

Rhys Goode, one of the Worcester fans hit by a meat and gravy missile, said: “It calmed down after the pies were thrown and everybody found it quite funny, although a few were annoyed because they have dry cleaning bills.”

But the half-baked banter proved costly, as the pies at Aggborough cost £4, and were last year voted the most expensive at a UK football ground.

After the match, City fans took to social media site Twitter to describe the incident.

A supporter calling himself ‘Pepper’ wrote: “Today at the city there were more cottage pies on target than shots.”

Fans on the City Banter Board – an unofficial online forum – branded the behaviour “disgraceful” and the stewarding “a joke”.

One user, called ‘steves’, wrote: “What have you got to do to get thrown out of a ground now?”

The police were called to the ground in case there were any further clashes outside the Hoo Road stadium, but no arrests were made.

Meanwhile, club officials said CCTV footage will be reviewed in a bid to identify any of the meat-slinging culprits.
