HEREFORD United hope for a bumper crowd at Edgar Street today as they take on Kidderminster Harriers for the second time in a week (3pm).

The Skrill Premier rivals met at Aggborough on Boxing Day with Harriers coming out on top with a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Michael Gash and Danny Jackman.

But Hereford, who scored through Josh O’Keefe, returned to winning ways last Saturday when Jon Brown netted as they toppled big-spending Forest Green Rovers 1-0 at Edgar Street.

Today they are back on home soil looking for immediate revenge over their rivals but also seeking vital funds through the gate.

Finances continue to give cause for concern for the Bulls, who had set a target of raising £35,000 by yesterday to pay staff wages for December.

Around a third of that had been achieved at the weekend and a large derby crowd would be a welcome boost to the situation.

Harriers chairman Mark Serrell this week issued a rallying call to his club’s fans to make the short trip across the border to both support Steve Burr’s side and swell the United coffers.

Hereford manager Martin Foyle has also praised the efforts of the Bulls’ fans, despite only 1,848 turning up for the Forest Green victory, which was shown live on BT Sport.

He said: “It’s a local derby and hopefully it will be well supported.

“The supporters have been playing their part but we will take it game-by-game and see where it takes us.”

While the financial problems of Kidderminster are now a thing of the past — the Aggborough outfit had a brush with administration two years ago — they are not enjoying the best of times on the pitch.

The Hereford victory was their only win in the last five league matches and Harriers were thumped 6-0 at leaders Luton Town last Saturday.

Although Kidderminster are still in the play-off places, Burr’s team are now 11 points behind the Hatters and must turn the tide if they want to challenge. Centre-half Chey Dunkley was sent off against Luton and is suspended for today’s match, while midfielder Frankie Artus could return for Hereford after missing the Forest Green triumph through injury.

Harriers have loaned winger James Dance to Northern League Premier Division outfit Rushall Olympic for a month.
